Man arrested after baby injured in Surrey robbery

A man has been arrested after a mother was punched in the face by a mugger, causing her nine-month-old son to be knocked out of his buggy.

The woman's nose was broken and her baby suffered mild bruising in the attack, which took place after she crossed the Basingstoke Canal bridge, in Woking, at 14:20 BST on Wednesday.

After punching her, the robber stole the 35-year-old woman's handbag.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested and is on bail.

Det Con Dan Chant said: "This was a vicious, totally unprovoked assault against a mother and her young baby in broad daylight."
