Bid for £10m Guildford technical college prepared

A technical college specialising in digital technologies and engineering is being proposed for Guildford.

A bid for £10m from the government is being prepared by Surrey County Council to open a University Technical College (UTC) in the town.

The council said it was working with Royal Holloway University of London and Guildford College on the plans.

If approved by the government, the UTC for 600 to 800 students aged from 14 to 19 would open in September 2017.

Local businesses including CGI and BAE Systems are also collaborating on the plans, the council said.

The funding bid will be submitted to the government in October.
