Arrest after man found seriously injured in Surrey road

A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a man was found with serious injuries in a Surrey road on Sunday.

Police said the victim was seen to be involved in "an altercation and a chase on foot" shortly before he was found.

The injured man, believed to be in his 30s, was found in Breech Lane, Walton on the Hill, at 00:30 BST. He remains in a serious condition in hospital.

The 45-year-old, from the town, remains in custody.

Temporary Det Insp Sailesh Limbachia said police were "still unsure about the circumstances of how the man sustained his injuries" and called for more witnesses to come forward.

During an earlier appeal, Surrey Police had said they were not certain whether the injured man had been hit by a vehicle or assaulted.
