A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a stabbing in Guildford.

Daniel Sommerville, 24, was stabbed in the chest during a fight involving the occupants of a Vauxhall Corsa and a van on Monday, police said.

Nathaniel Johnson, also 24, from Barkworth Road, Bermondsey in south east London, was remanded in custody by magistrates in Guildford.

He is next due to appear at Guildford Crown Court on 24 April.

Mr Sommerville was admitted to the Royal Surrey County Hospital at about 15:35 GMT but died shortly afterwards.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death to be a single stab wound to the chest.

Four other people arrested in connection with Mr Sommerville's death have been released on bail.
