A teenager who raped a woman as she walked along a woodland footpath has been jailed for nine years.

The 48-year-old was attacked on 17 June near Esher Road and Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey.

The 17-year-old, who was 16 at the time, had initially denied the offence, but later pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court.

A judge said the teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, must serve a six-year extended licence upon release.

He had admitted one charge of rape, one of attempted rape, and three sexual assault charges at a previous hearing.

Speaking after Monday's sentencing, Det Con Annette Bridge from Surrey Police, said: "The boy not only planned his attack but then initially denied his guilt.

"Not once throughout the investigation did he show any genuine remorse, and he only pleaded guilty when the weight of the evidence literally left him with nowhere else to go."
