Safety warning follows Hove high-rise flat block blaze

Residents in tower blocks are being warned to heed fire safety advice following a blaze at flats in Hove.

A total of 21 firefighters spent about an hour tackling flames on the roof of a six-storey property in The Drive on Wednesday afternoon.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said no-one was evacuated from the flats and the fire was believed to have been started accidentally.

Crews removed damaged parts of the roof to stop a second fire starting.

A spokeswoman said: "In light of the recent tragedies involving high-rise block fires in other parts of the UK, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is actively consulting local residents on fire safety.

"Brighton and Hove firefighters have been heading out into the community to chat to those who live in high-rise blocks of six or more storeys."
