A 19-year-old man arrested as part of an inquiry into a serious sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl in West Sussex has been freed without charge.

The man, who was arrested on Tuesday, was questioned about the attack on a grass area just off Beach Crescent, Littlehampton on 19 July.

The girl was assaulted after she refused the advances of a man who had offered her money for sex.

Police have issued an efit of the man and renewed an appeal for information.

Jogging bottoms

They said the girl had spent the day with a friend, and began speaking to the man after her companion left.

The assault took place at about 2130 BST.

He is described as being of Asian appearance, about 19 years of age and about 5ft 8in tall.

He had short, dark hair which was curly on top and swept behind his ears and was wearing black jogging bottoms, a turquoise polo shirt and black flip flops with yellow flecks.

"We hope that it may jog someone's memory," said Det Sgt Tracy Edwards.

"If anyone saw someone matching this description in the Beach Crescent area before the incident we would like to hear from them, together with anyone who may have seen or heard anything else suspicious."
