Two men released after Waitrose crash in Brighton

Two men arrested after a hit-and-run accident outside a Brighton supermarket in which a pedestrian was seriously injured have been released.

A 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to report an accident and driving while unfit through drink or drugs has been bailed.

A 19-year-old held on suspicion of careless driving and failing to report an accident was freed without charge.

The accident happened outside Waitrose in Western Road on Friday.

The pedestrian was injured when a car hit the store then careered into seven wheelie bins.

A 28-year-old man, who was hit by one of the bins, is still in hospital with multiple injuries which are serious but not life-threatening.

Sussex Police said he had been transferred to King's College Hospital, south London from the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
