Ticehurst village housing project rejected

Controversial plans to build new homes in an East Sussex village have been turned down by a local authority.

Hastoe Housing Association had submitted an application to build 14 affordable homes in Ticehurst.

But Rother District Council said the project was not appropriate for a rural area and was not supported locally.

Villagers held a number of protests to demonstrate their objections to the plans in the run-up to Thursday's decision.

Jane Gallifent, from Hastoe Housing Association, said: "We are naturally disappointed because we know there is a need for new homes in Ticehurst."
