Man bailed after trailer hits car in East Sussex

A man arrested after two people were seriously hurt when a trailer broke free from a car in East Sussex has been bailed pending further inquiries.

A Land Rover had been towing the trailer along the A267 at Hellingly, near Eastbourne, on Sunday afternoon.

It separated from the vehicle and crossed into the opposing northbound carriageway and hit a Saab convertible.

The 39-year-old female driver is in a critical condition in hospital. A female passenger, 63, was also injured.

Police said both women were from Eastbourne.

The driver of the Land Rover, a 38-year-old man from Herstmonceux, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.
