Police have warned women to be vigilant when walking alone after a teenager was raped near the seafront in East Sussex.
The 19-year-old woman was attacked in the Ceylon Place area of Eastbourne between 2230 BST and 2245 BST on Wednesday, Sussex Police said.
The man is described as wearing dark clothing and a black baseball cap.
Police are carrying out house-to-house inquiries and examining CCTV footage and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
"Attacks of this nature are rare but I would like to remind women to take personal safety advice and be vigilant when walking alone, especially at night," said Det Insp Emma Heater.
