A former police officer is facing a fraud charge in relation to thousands of pounds worth of property found.

Sussex Police said Peter Yeats, 32, would appear before Brighton magistrates on 1 November.

A statement issued by the force said Mr Yeats resigned as Neighbourhood Response Sergeant at Hastings on 16 September, the day he was arrested.

The statement said the court hearing was "in relation to attempted fraud of £3,500 of found property".

Mr Yeats had been charged with fraud by false representation under the Fraud Act 2006, it added.
