An elderly couple have pleaded guilty to racially abusing a woman as she travelled on a bus with her two young children.
Peter, 70, and Jennifer Ford, 68, from Brighton, were charged with causing racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress in June.
They entered their plea to the charge at Lewes Crown Court after asking to have their case heard there.
The couple, of Wellington Road, each got a two-year conditional discharge.
After they were sentenced, Pc Natasha Swan, of Sussex Police, said it had been an "appalling incident".
"The victim and her young children were unnecessarily subjected to racial abuse.
"Sussex Police will not tolerate racial abuse of any kind irrespective of the age of the offenders."
