Arrests follow Hankham road crash death

Two people have been arrested in connection with a crash which killed a 28-year-old Eastbourne man.

A vehicle was carrying four people when it left the road at Hankham, near Pevensey, in the early hours of Monday.

Sussex Police said a 21-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taking a vehicle without consent.

An 18-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent.

A fourth person in the car, a 17-year-old girl from Eastbourne, was taken to hospital with a broken leg after the incident just after 0300 GMT in Hankham Road, near Foords Lane.

A Sussex Police spokesman said officers were still trying to establish the circumstances of the crash but it appeared that after the collision, the Vauxhall Astra travelled further along the road before stopping.

The man who died has not yet been identified.

Anyone who saw the crash, or the Astra being driven in the area before the incident, has been urged to contact the force.
