South Africa murder suspect extradition agreed

A man is to be extradited from South Africa on suspicion of the murder of a six-year-old girl in West Sussex more than six years ago, police have said.

Dumo Sibanda, from Crawley, died from smoke inhalation in a fire at her home in Pound Hill in October 2004.

George Sithole, 41, was arrested in South Africa in December 2009 on suspicion of her murder.

A Sussex Police spokesman said the South African authorities have agreed to his extradition.

The spokesman said Mr Sibanda appeared in court on Friday, and added: "At that hearing the court agreed to his extradition to the UK.

"Subject to subsequent confirmation from the UK Ministry of Justice, arrangements will be made for his return to this country."

The fire was initially thought to be an accident, but after Dumo's funeral her parents were told the blaze was started deliberately.
