A 29-year-old man from Brighton has been jailed for 13 years and six months for raping and blackmailing a woman.

Tobias Dynes, of Frederick Gardens, was found guilty at Lewes Crown Court of rape, six counts of blackmail and perverting the course of justice.

Sussex Police said Dynes was arrested in May 2010 after he had been on the run for over two months.

"Dynes is a violent and manipulative man who deserves to be put away for some time," said Det Con Robin Aspin.

He said the victim had been through a terrifying ordeal and had shown the utmost strength and courage.

As well as being raped, the woman was blackmailed over a number of months as Dynes demanded increasing sums of money.

He became increasingly violent and the woman fled Brighton with her children.

"Any allegations of rape are always fully investigated and we continue to support victims and to ensure that justice is carried out," said Mr Aspin.
