Woman arrested after 'bomb' find at Hove restaurant
A woman has been arrested after a suspected explosive device was found by fire investigators responding to an arson attack at a Hove restaurant.
Police evacuated buildings in the Kingsway area after a package was found at Breakfast at Tiffany's on Tuesday.
The lit object that caused the fire and the explosive device are thought to be connected.
Police said a woman, 38, was being held on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and criminal damage.
Her Brighton address is currently being searched by specially-trained officers.
The alarm was raised at 0015 GMT on Tuesday when a passer-by spotted flames as he drove past the restaurant.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the man helped the family living above the premises to safety.
A total of 13 firefighters dealt with the initial incident and when fire investigators returned later in the morning to examine the scene in daylight, they discovered the device.
Sussex Police cordoned off the area in Kingsway and evacuated nearby buildings and a bomb disposal team was sent to carry out a controlled explosion.
The force does not believe the incident was a random attack.
