Police warn over West Sussex bogus callers

Police have urged West Sussex residents to be vigilant after two people were targeted by bogus callers.

Sussex Police said a woman in her 90s was approached by a man at her home in Steyning on Saturday, who claimed she had problems with her drains.

After he had left, she discovered that an envelope containing £500 had been taken from the lounge.

Later, an elderly woman in Selsey was targeted by two men who claimed to have carried out repairs to her garage roof.

They drove her to the post office and insisted she withdraw £300.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said distraction burglary was a "hideous crime".
