Man 'tried to open door' of Mombassa to Gatwick plane

A man has been charged with endangering the safety of an aircraft by trying to open an exit door mid-flight.

Thomas Lewis Hughes, 56, is accused of acting recklessly and negligently on the flight between Kenya and London Gatwick Airport, West Sussex, last May.

Mr Hughes, of Tyn Caeau Estate, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey, was remanded on bail by magistrates in Crawley.

It is claimed the incident happened on a Monarch Airlines plane from Mombassa.

Sussex Police said Mr Hughes was a passenger on the flight on 25 May last year.

He is due to appear before Crawley magistrates on 30 June for committal proceedings.
