Hove man lying in Worthing road hit by car

A 27-year-old man may have been dead when was hit by a car in Worthing, police have revealed.

Thomas Howat, from Hove, was found on the A259 Wykeham Road in the early hours of Saturday.

Sgt Jim Stobart from Sussex Police said: "We need to establish why Mr Howat was lying in the road and whether he was already injured."

The 71-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Beetle, was unhurt in the incident.

Police said they were unsure as to whether Mr Howat was still alive immediately following the accident, or if he was dead before being hit by the Volkswagen.

They are asking anyone who saw the incident to contact Sussex Police.
