Man arrested over Brighton sexual assault

A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in Brighton as she walked home in the early hours of Wednesday.

Sussex Police said the 44-year-old was arrested earlier and remains in custody.

A 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Park Street, Brighton, shortly before 0300 BST on Wednesday.

Officers are now searching for a man who may be a witness.

Det Insp Mick Jones of Brighton CID said: "Shortly before the attack on the woman, she passed a man walking westwards towards Edward Street near the junction with Upper Rock Gardens.

"Police would urge this man to make contact as he may be a witness and hold vital information that may assist this inquiry."
