Crawley stabbing victim undergoes emergency surgery

A 30-year-old Sussex man found unconscious in the street in Crawley with a stab wound to the back has had emergency surgery at a London hospital.

Sussex Police said the man was found outside a launderette in Tilgate Parade at about 07:30 GMT.

Det Insp Dave Richards said the man's injury was very serious but not life-threatening.

He said police were trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding the serious attack.

The area remained cordoned off on Saturday while the scene was forensically examined.

Officers have been viewing CCTV and making house-to-house inquiries.

Appealing for information, Det Insp Richards urged anyone who was in the shopping parade or driving through the area at the time and saw anything suspicious to contact the force.
