Eastbourne Fisherman's Club allows women members
A social club in East Sussex is allowing women to join as full members for the first time in the club's history.
The Fisherman's Club in Eastbourne has been going for almost 70 years but women have previously only ever been accepted as associate members.
From January 2012, women can become full members giving them voting rights and allowing them to attend the AGM.
The change will bring the club into line with equality legislation.
Richard Field, treasurer of the Fisherman's Club, said: "A new committee has come in and said 'look it's a legal issue - we are going to do it' and we decided we would integrate ladies as full members.
"We do need a variant of opinion and drive."
