Man dies after house fire in Peacehaven

A 30-year-old man has died in hospital after being rescued from a house fire in East Sussex.

About 30 firefighters tackled the blaze, which started at a property in Carey Down, Peacehaven, at about 15:55 GMT on Saturday.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued the man but he died later.

The cause of the fire is being investigated but Sussex Police said it was not being treated as suspicious.

Det Insp Ian Williams said: "This is a tragic incident in which a man has died. Neighbours were quick to alert the fire service when they saw smoke within the house and firemen broke in to make the rescue.

"Together with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service we are investigating the circumstances of his death but are not treating it as suspicious."

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service added: "The thoughts and condolences of the service are with the man's family and friends at this difficult time."
