Workman hurt in live electricity cable strike in Hove

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after hitting a live electricity cable while working at a property in Hove.

The man, in his 30s, suffered an electric shock when he came into contact with the underground cable, in Brunswick Street.

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, suffering from burns.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

UK Power Networks, which operates the cabling system, said the injured man was a "third party", not employed by the company.

A spokesman said supplies to people in the area were cut off while repairs were carried out but have since been restored.
