A Kent police officer whose wife has breast cancer has run in the London Marathon.

Det Insp Julien Lawton was raising money for Cancer Research UK after his wife Sara was diagnosed with the disease in 2010.

She has undergone surgery and radiotherapy and is currently receiving chemotherapy treatment.

Speaking ahead of the race, Mr Lawton said: "Everything I go through on Sunday will be worth it."

The father-of-three from Whitstable added: "Sara brings light and happiness to all our lives.

"I would urge you to sponsor me so that we can help prevent another family enduring what we have.

"Cancer was something which other people got. This time it got us and has affected not only us but all that know and love Sara."

Mr Lawton completed the course in a time of 4:42:49.
