Man killed in Golden Cross caravan site blaze

A man was killed when a fire destroyed a caravan at a site in East Sussex.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue service said the mobile home was well alight when crews arrived at Deanland Wood Caravan Park, Chiddingly, near Golden Cross, at 03.25 BST on Friday.

Firefighters, including two wearing breathing apparatus, rescued the man from the caravan and extinguished the blaze, but he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated by officers.

Wealden Borough Commander, Mark Matthews, said: "This is a really tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the gentleman who died.

"The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by a Fire Investigation Officer and a Scenes of Crime Officer from Sussex Police."
