East Sussex fire crews rescue family from Rye pub roof

A family has been rescued from the roof of a pub near Rye in East Sussex following a fire in the building.

Three crews from East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service were called to the Royal Oak Inn, at Pett at about 0250 BST.

Two adults and a child were asleep in the building and were woken by a smoke alarm sounding.

The family found their normal exit blocked by smoke but were able to escape onto a flat roof on the outside of the building.
