Sussex dog walker rescued from muddy Horsham riverbank

A woman has been rescued after being trapped in mud on a waterlogged riverbank in West Sussex.

The woman became trapped on North Heath Lane riverbank, Horsham, on Wednesday after wading out to reach her dog.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service firefighters freed her using rescue ropes and water safety equipment.

Marvin Smith, from the service, said: "This is the second incident where our firefighters have needed to use water rescue equipment in recent days.

"Thankfully both the woman and her pet [were] uninjured, but this incident is a timely reminder of how heavy rainfall can make conditions for dog walkers much more treacherous, particularly in wooded or coastal areas."
