A cyclist is in a critical condition in hospital with serious head injuries after apparently crashing into a shopping trolley in East Sussex.

It is thought the 44-year-old local man hit the trolley and fell from his bike while riding along a pathway running parallel to Seabourne Road, in Bexhill.

He was taken to the Conquest Hospital following the accident at 00:20 BST.

Sussex Police said he was later transferred to Hurstwood Park Hospital, in Haywards Heath.
