East Sussex horse rider 'in critical condition'

A woman is in a critical condition with serious head injuries after falling from her horse on an East Sussex road.

The 28-year-old rider from Eastbourne lost control of her horse after it was startled on the A271 near Hailsham, Sussex Police said.

Emergency services were called after the horse began galloping along Under Road, Magham Down, just before 18:00 BST on Monday.

Police said they were unsure why the horse bolted.

The injured woman was flown to hospital in London, where she remains in a critical condition.
