A man whose body was found washed up on a beach in East Sussex has been identified as a Romanian lorry driver.

The body of Maricel Daniliuc, 24, was found next to the pier at Hastings on Sunday, but police said his death was not being treated as suspicious.

Appealing for information, officers said he arrived in Dover on 24 May and drove his Renault lorry to Hastings.

The last known sighting of him was in Linton Road, where he parked the lorry that morning before walking off.

Det Insp Andy Harbour said: "We don't know where he went, who he was with, or why he was in Hastings.

"Detectives are working to piece together the last few days of his life.

"There is no reason at this stage to believe his death is suspicious, but it is being treated as unexplained."

He added that Mr Daniliuc's family in Romania had been informed of his death.
