Stabbing accused man unfit to appear in court

A man accused of stabbing his pregnant partner has been remanded in custody after he was deemed unfit to appear at a court hearing in West Sussex.

Shahid Mahmood, 25, is charged with attempted murder after a 23-year-old woman was found in a house in The Parade, Northgate in Crawley on 26 May.

The woman had been stabbed four times in her neck and upper body.

Lewes Crown Court was told that she underwent an operation in hospital and her pregnancy had been unaffected.

She was six months pregnant at the time of the stabbing.

The case against Mr Mahmood, of The Parade, Northgate, was adjourned until 3 August.
