Two men arrested over Worthing flat arson

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of starting a fire at a West Sussex flat which injured three people.

A man had to be taken to hospital and two women were treated at the scene following the blaze at a building in Rowlands Road, Worthing, on Sunday.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued the occupants and a dog following a search of the building.

Sussex Police said two local men were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent and released on bail.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "A rear bedroom within a bed-sit flat suffered extensive fire damage.

"Fire investigators and police scenes of crime officers have been examining the scene of the fire, which they are treating as suspicious."

She appealed for anyone with information about the fire to contact officers.

The injured man was taken to hospital after breathing in smoke while the women were treated by paramedics.
