Brighton bikers get official access to bus lanes
Motorcyclists in Brighton have welcomed a plan to allow them official access to bus and taxi lanes into the city.
Riders will be able to use the A23 from Carden Avenue to Preston Drove and the A259 from Saltdean to the Ovingdean roundabout.
Brighton Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) said allowing them into bus lanes improved safety for riders and encouraged sustainable transport.
Brighton and Hove Bus Company said the move made a lot of sense.
"It has been happening in practice since those bus lanes have been introduced," said managing director Roger French.
But he added the company would be against any expansion of the scheme in the city centre because of heavy traffic and high numbers of pedestrians.
Brighton and Hove City Council said it had responded to lobbying from MAG, members of which met transport committee chair Ian Davey in August.
If approved by the city council's transport committee on 27 November, the scheme will run for a trial period of 12 months, starting next summer.
