Soldier found dead in car at Thorney Island barracks

A soldier has been found dead at an Army barracks in West Sussex.

The 28-year-old bombardier was discovered in a car at Baker Barracks, on Thorney Island, at 20:00 BST on Wednesday. Sussex Police are not treating his death as suspicious.

The 12th Regiment Royal Artillery has been based at Baker Barracks since 2008, when it returned from Germany.

An Army spokesman said: "Next of kin have been informed and the matter is in the hands of Sussex Police."

He added: "As such, we are unable to comment further at this stage."
