Hastings shop raided by needle-wielding robber

A man wielding a hypodermic syringe raided a shop of hundreds of pounds of cash from the till.

The robber entered West Hill Stores in Plynlimmon Road and approached a shop assistant before taking the money from the till.

Two men from Hastings, aged 35 and 48, were arrested on suspicion of robbery. They have both been released on bail until 4 August.

Sussex Police said the use of a syringe in a robbery was unusual.

They are appealing for any witnesses to the raid, which happened at 07:40 BST on 31 May, to contact them.

The man, who was wearing a black balaclava, is described as white and slim.

Det Con Dave Elcock said: "We believe the man only pulled his balaclava on before he walked into the shop so people may have seen him acting suspiciously outside in the minutes beforehand."
