Tributes have been paid to the father of a one-month old baby who died when his 4x4 vehicle left the road and hit a tree in icy conditions in East Sussex.

Daniel Osborne, who owned a butchers in Uckfield, suffered fatal injuries in the crash in Furnace Lane, Lions Green near Horam at 07:00 GMT on Monday.

His wife Kayleigh described him as a "fantastic husband and loving father to our four-week-old daughter Sophie".

The organisers of a Facebook tribute page plan to start a fund for Sophie.

'Saddened beyond belief'

In a statement, they said: "We wish to thank everyone for their kind messages and the love that has been shown.

"As you are all aware Dan was well loved in the community.

"Dan became a daddy only four weeks ago. Not only does he leave a 24-year-old gorgeous wife Kayleigh, he leaves his little Sophie.

"We have been asked by many people how they can help and whether they could donate to a fund.

"We are looking into ways of providing a trust fund for Sophie which will support and help her future."

Mrs Osborne said the death of her husband "saddens me beyond belief" but thanked everyone for their support.

She added: "Taken too soon my beautiful husband. I will miss you so much."

Sussex Police said emergency services attending the crash faced temperatures of -2C and sheet ice.

The force said formal identification was due to take place later today.
