A convicted paedophile who fled to Malta after abusing two young girls in West Sussex has been sentenced to three years and eight months in jail.

In 2012, Roderick MacDonald, also known as Robinson, 77, was given a suspended jail term after abusing the girls, aged seven and five, in Shoreham.

He admitted three offences under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 at Brighton Magistrates' Court last month.

He also admitted breaching the terms of his suspended sentence.

On Friday, MacDonald, formerly of Upper Rock Gardens, Brighton, was sentenced to two years and eight months imprisonment for each of the three sex offences, to run concurrently.

He was also jailed for a year, to run consecutively, for two breaches of his suspended sentence.
