Man charged over Brighton Old Steine crash death

A man has been charged after a pensioner was hit and killed by a car in Brighton.

Jonos Sasvari, 78, of Little Preston Street, died in Old Steine on 10 January.

Gavin Dawes, 33, of Phoenix Rise, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of dangerous driving.

Appearing at Brighton Magistrates' Court earlier, a trial date was fixed for April 7 at Lewes Crown Court.

He was remanded in custody.

A 35-year-old man remains on bail after being arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving, failing to stop for police and failing to report an accident.
