A man has been charged with murder after a 52-year-old was fatally wounded at his home in West Sussex.

Officers were called to Alan Creasey's home in Ingleside Crescent, Lancing, at about 20:15 BST on Monday following reports of a disturbance.

Police found Mr Creasey with minor injuries and left his house to find the attacker. When they returned an hour later he had a fresh fatal head wound.

Duncan Hearsey, 44, of Greenacres in Shoreham, has been remanded in custody.

He was arrested on Tuesday morning and is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates Court later charged with murder.

Det Ch Insp Till Sanderson, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, has urged anyone who was in the Ingleside Crescent area of Lancing from 14:00 BST onwards on Monday to contact them if they saw anyone acting suspiciously.

"In particular we would like witnesses to come forward who saw a man riding a white/silver coloured mountain bike in the area for much of the day.

"The man is described as white, approximately 5'10" and stocky. We are also seeking a pair of brown or orange gloves, possibly workman's style, as part of our enquiries," he added.

Mr Creasey died of his injuries in hospital on Tuesday.

As officers had visited Mr Creasey earlier on Monday, Sussex Police has referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
