Lifeboat crews rescued a man who had fallen out of a canoe while fishing off the coast of Hartlepool.

The man, who has not been named, managed to alert the emergency services with his mobile phone while he was fishing near Steetley Pier on Saturday.

Two lifeboats and a helicopter from RAF Boulmer were sent to the scene.

A spokesman for Humber Coastguard, which co-ordinated the rescue operation, said the man was not seriously hurt.
