RNLI downgrade Redcar turbulent seas warning

A rough seas warning off the coast of Teesside on Sunday has been downgraded.

Lifeboat rescuers were predicting 15ft waves and rough seas to batter the coast of Redcar, peaking at 1700 GMT.

But although the RNLI said seas were not as turbulent as predicted, it is still urging people to be cautious and avoid the seafront.

A spokesman said the water was still "rough" and rescuing anyone swept away would be "difficult."

Dave Cocks, spokesman for the Redcar RNLI, said: "The warnings may have been a bit pessimistic and there certainly hasn't been any flooding.

"But it is still rough out there and we would urge caution."
