Man airlifted after crash in County Durham

A man was airlifted to hospital after the car he was driving left the road in County Durham and travelled 70 metres (230 ft) into a field.

It happened on Sunday morning on the A167 in Croxdale near the Honest Lawyer pub.

Police said the Vauxhall Astra lost control after overtaking a Ford Focus. They said the severe road and weather conditions were to blame.

The Spennymoor man, aged in his 20s, suffered severe head injuries.

He was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
