A 49-year-old man has been charged with wounding after a woman was found with stab wounds in a house hours after crews were called to a fire.
Friefighters tackled a blaze in Mapleton Drive, Hemlington, Middlesbrough, early on Friday.
Police were then called to the same address where they found the 34-year-old woman with a neck wound.
A man has been charged with wounding with intent and remanded in custody by Teesside magistrates.
The woman's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, police said.
