A popular beauty spot is to benefit from a £300,000 makeover.

The cash will be spent on doubling the size of the existing visitor centre at the Guisborough Forest and Walkway and creating new exhibition space.

Redcar and Cleveland Council is also planning to improve facilities for cyclists and install green power generating equipment like solar cells.

Work on the site, which last year attracted more than 150,000 visitors, is expected to be completed by May.

Council leader George Dunning said: "The forest already attracts huge numbers of walkers, nature lovers, mountain bikers and educational groups.

"This latest work will help to bring in yet more visitors to appreciate this magnificent venue."
