Girl, 16, struck by police car in Stockton

An investigation has begun after a police car struck a 16-year-old girl as the officer responded to an emergency.

The pedestrian was injured on Yarm Road, Stockton, Teesside, at 0030 GMT when she was struck by the marked BMW estate car.

She was taken to North Tees General Hospital where her condition was described as stable.

The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Anyone who witnessed the crash has been urged to contact the police.
