Markse and Saltburn elderly warned over rogue traders
Elderly people on Teesside are being warned to be wary of workmen giving "ridiculous" quotes after a man was conned out of £2,000.
Police said a number of householders in Marske and Saltburn had fallen victim to rogue tradesmen offering to build fences and driveways for "huge sums".
One elderly man gave £2,000 and his caravan to pay for a very poorly built fence, police said.
Officers are urging people to get in touch with trading standards.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "I would ask residents to consider the prices quoted to them very carefully, as most are simply ridiculous."
