Family cat 'held down and burnt' on Teesside

A cat was held down and burnt with a lighter and cigarette on Teesside, police believe.

The pet, called Tiny, returned home on Sunday with a number of cigarette burns on her body and a badly burnt paw and is being treated by a vet.

Police believe she was attacked in Carlin How between 1000 and 1215 BST.

Pc Richard Bailey, of Cleveland Police, said: "This is an horrific attack on a defenceless animal and she was left badly injured."
