Man, 77, arrested in Redcar murder and kidnap probe

A 77-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a probe into the kidnap and murder of an epileptic man.

Father-of-two John Newton, 45, died from head injuries after allegedly being bundled into a van and assaulted in Redcar, Teesside, on 19 March.

Four people have been charged with his kidnap and murder and on Wednesday Cleveland Police made a fifth arrest.

The 77-year-old is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.

Mr Newton, who was registered disabled, died in James Cook Memorial Hospital two days after he was attacked.
